The quartet Arturo O’Farrill/p, Bill Ware/vib, Alex Blake/b and Jaime Affoumado/dr joing together for some swinging and simpatico sounds on this release. Everyone writes material here, and the moods range from exciting cookers as on “Dreams ofDad” and “To Whom” to trickling groovrs like “Peaceful Moments.” Lots of percussive interplay here, with vibes and ivories melding marvelously together. When they dig deep into a groove as on “Lonely Days Are Gone” (from an old 60s pop tune) the drive can be wonderfully relentless. Lots of exciting ricochets bouncing around here.
