Band leader Noah Baerman patches and pastes a variety of bands, sounds and settings on this recording that includes strings, vocals, winds, vibes and Kenny Barron’s piano. Ambitious chamber pieces such as “The Outer Circle” combine strings with a jazz trio to stellar effect, while the almost twelve minute “Motherless” undulates the old spiritual with saxes by Jimmy Greene, Kris Allen, vibes by Chris Dingman, drums from Johnathan Blake and the leader’s guitar, organ and vocals. “Lester” is a moving opus which includes Kenny Barron and Linda Oh/b along with the jazz alliance, whiel “Ripple: L’Amore Gagne” featgures a moving choir along with Claire Randall’s solo vocals. A heartfelt encouragement is sung on “Time is Now” that includes elements of jazz, pop and classical, making this eclectic mix filled with spirit and ambition in an impressive completed serving.
