Bet you thought you’ve heard all of the music associated with Charlie Brown and the gang! Guess again! This 1964 recording with Vince Guaraldi/p, Monty Budwig/b and Colin Bailey/dr was supposed to be the sound track for a network TV documentary on Charles M. Schulz, but somehow the show never saw the light of day. So, the soundtrack for a never watched TV show came out originally as Jazz Impressions of a Boy Named Charlie Brown; this is its remastered reissue, with an alternate take of “Baseball Theme” and a swinging take of “Fly Me to the Moon” that dances like Snoopy on his doghouse for almost nine minutes. If you have never heard “Linus and Lucy” or the “Charlie Brown Theme” you must have lived on another planet or something, because these are as recognizable as the Star Spangled Banner. More obscure tunes such as “Happiness Is” and “Blue Charlie Brown” deserve a revisit by some modern trio-they mix joy, swing and presence in a way that is needed nowadays. Look for this one!
