The Harder They Come: Restored, Remastered in HD

One of the all time important movies about modern music has been cleaned up and available on itunes and VHX. The 1973 film about a Jamaican singer not only catapulted Jimmy Cliff onto the pop stage, but introduced reggae to a Western World waiting for “something new.” Iconic songs by Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, and of course Cliff (among others) are interspersed between a low-budget-yet-real to life tale of a fledgling singer trying to brake away from the corrupt local scene. Sound familiar? Sort of John Garfield’s Body and Soul with dreadlocks. The movie quality is finally made easy on the eyes, as it had been notoriously grainy, yet you’ll still need the subtitles to understand their English dialogue. If you haven’t seen it before, or are unexposed to the REAL reggae sounds, you’re in for a treat.
