Krakauer: The Big Picture

Clarinetist David Krakauer gives a creative and imaginative tribute to songs from the silver screen  along stars Jenny Scheinman/vio, Adam Rogers/g, Rob Burger/key, Jim Black/dr-perc  and an assortment of cameo appearances. If you’re expecting John Barry or John Williams orchestrations, keep looking, as what you get here is a a collection that can go from a Spike Jones-inspired take of a tune from Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris to a Weimer Republic sounding “Honeycomb” from Bob Fosse’s Lenny. In between is a klezmerish “La Vita E Bella” from Life is Beautiful and a Carl Stallings/Warner Brothers driven theme from Allen’s Love and Death. Krakauer’s bass clarinet is deep and thoughtuful on “People” and loopy and droopy on “Body and Soul.” A tip of the hat with a rabbit coming out of it.
