Here’s a lady that really defines “jazz vocalist”. Janice Borla teams up with a sleek and swinging team of “Scott Robinson/ts-fl, Art Davis/tp-fh, John McLean/g, Bob Bowman/b and Jack Mouse/dr for a mix of delivering lithe and expressive readings of lyrics as well as bopping and wordless vocals. She sounds definitive on a luminous “If You Could See Me Now” with a delivery of lyrics that sounds like she’s living what she’s conveying. Likewise, on “Some Other Spring,” she sounds like she’s perfectly regretful, while without the restriction of lyrics, she jabs and hits right on the jaw on “RunFerYerLife”. The band is hand in glove, and Robinson must’ve taken his Prez pills for the session, as he breathes warm and rich lines throughout the wondrous album. You’re going to LOVE this one!
