One of the leading soprano saxist, Jane Ira Bloom goes reflective and subdued on this marvelously mellow session with Dominic Fallacaro/p, Cameron Brown/b and Matt Wilson/dr. Her tone is soft and gentle throughout the 14 tunes, and she creates a pastoral atmosphere via interpretations of songs like “What She Wanted” and “I Loves You Porgy.” She sounds intimate with Fallacaro on a duet intro to “For All We Know” that has the remaining team slowly ambulate into the scene, while on “Darn That Dream” Brown does a paux de deux on the beginning of of the cozy “Darn That Dream.” Bloom blossoms on the bluesy “Ice Dancing” and gasps with agony on “But Not For Me.” Lots of subtle interplay make this a understated joy.
