Here’s a trumpet player you may not be familiar with, but you’ll like him a lot. Pete Rodriguez sings as well as writes most of the material here as he leads a band of Daniel Dufour/dr, Sam Pankey/b, Luis Perdomo/p and Robert Quitero/perc. The albums opens with a charming vocal by his young daughter Nayeli along with some graceful percussion before dad comes in with some lovely horn work. Other material like the red hot “Arlene” and “Still Searching” mix exciting percussion with Rodriguez’s passionate horn display. As with most horn players, ballads come of wondrously, and “Tic-Tock” as well as the graceful “It’s Not Over Yet” allow the melody to unfold like a morning marigold. Nice chops displayed as well as a gourmet meal in a 5 star restaurant.
