Classical vocalist Maria Pia De Vito sings in a variety of settings and moods in this wide ranging album with Francois Couturier/p, Anja Lechner/cel and Michele Rabbia/perc-elec. Most of the pieces, such as “Amen/Fac ut Portem” and “Ogni Pena Cchiu Spietata” have a haunting spaciousness of instrumentation that serves as an intro or a framework for De Vito’s old world voice to flow in like an Umbrian breeze. Some other pieces such as “Fremente” and some of the three part “In Compagne de Amore” are a bit more toward the modern classical bent, with some jagged edges and vocal percussions used as sharp angles, but it just serves as part of the darker pieces of this musical mosaic that intrigues while creating a sonic atmosphere not unlike a mist hovering and revealing different pieces in Siena’s Piazza Del Campo. Thoughtful.
