Here’s a fun one for you West Africa fans. Zansa consists of Adama Dembele/voc-perc, Casey Dean/dr, Patrick Fitzsimons/g, Sean Mason/dr, Ryan Reardon/b and Matt Williams/vio making a mixture of sounds that will grab your attention as well as your feet. Williams’ violin adds an extra texture to the percussive mix, as at times he gives the music an almost country-Nashville vibe as in “Fama” and “Tolon.” Other times, the lilting and tricky guitar riffs as on “Thirst” and “Walk Away” give a more US rock feel, while “Tinge Reprise” delivers that wondrous dancing calypso feel. All throughout, Dembele’s vocals are rich, strong and virile. Lots of exciting rhythms coming at you, with the string section adding some nice variety.
