First, a bit of a history lesson to let you know that this music by the trio of Emmanuelle LeBlanc/bodran-flutes-jaws harp-v, Pascal Miousse/vio-g-mand-v and Pastelle LeBland/acc-v makes perfect sense. What we now call “Cajun” originated with French Canadians, called “Acadians” before they came down to the Bayou of Louisiana. This trio comes from Canada, and mixes the lilt of the Delta with Traditional Americana that will feel like you’re at the local 4th of July picnic.Material such as “Tobie Lapierre” with the mix of jaws harp, accordion and nasally vocals, delivers scents that are at one moment right out of Lafayette Louisiana, and the next almost Gaellic. A UK folksiness is found also on instrumentals such as “Shetland’s Magical Bus,” while “Tutti Frutti” with it’s whistles and flutes evokes images of Galway pubs. Lovely voices of the ladies meld together on “Les Yeux Noirs,” while “Le Printemps'” guitar and violins make you feel like you’re traversing the Cumberline Gap. A bit of more modern sounds slides in on “Pour Jacob” with some electric guitar, but the effect is more cosmetic than jarring. Wondrous sounds to take in here.
