You’ve got to give credit to Matt Parker for at least being creative. The tenor/soprano saxist along with Jesse Elder/p, Josh Mease/g, Alan Hampton/b, Julio Monterrey/as and Reggie Quinerly/dr delivers a restlessly inquisitive collection of originals sans a take of “Darn That Dream.” Lots of jagged melodies and elliptical rhythms that usually and eventually veer into a semblance of a melody or theme. A clever duet with tap dancer Jimmy Sutherland wins the day on “WPT” while most of the other tunes might create excitement in a live setting like an art museum, but would clear out my car if it were played on a night out with the buds.
