In case you didn’t notice, movie soundtracks have become to the present time what Symphonies meant to the 19th Century and Jazz Concerts meant to the 20th. And who else besides John Williams has his own distinct sound and style, not unlike Duke Ellington or Ludwig Beethoven? It’s the vehicular display of what modern compositions for the masses can and should sound like. This one, without the benefit of dinosaurs and flying reptiles, is actually quite impressive on its own terms. The “Theme” and “Welcome To Jurassic Park” are wondrous tunes that need to be explored by jazz artists, while the percussive and moody “Dennis Steals the Embryo” is attractively murky. Sophisticated music, but not high brow; a thoroughly impressive but also enjoyable romp.
