Harry Connick Jr: Every Man Should Know

Boy, doesn’t this guy sound just like Michael Buble’?

Remember when they compared Connick to Sinatra? Well, times sure have changed; a few decades have passed and Harry himself is the standard to which other vocalists are compared (or imitated!). And the difference between someone like Bubbles and this guy here is that Connick not only writes his own stuff, and writes it VERY well,  but he never sounds like he’s posing. He feels like he believes in these originals as he hits the piano and B3 with Tony Hall/b, Raymond Weber/dr, Jonathan DuBose Jr/g, and other various horn players and supporting sidemen. The sounds range from a Nashville-ish “Come See About Me” to a sleek samba on “I Love Her,” with lots of Crescent City grooving on “Friend (Goin’ Home)” and “You’ve Got It” in between. A lovely Tin Pan Alley-influence “Being Alone” could easily become a modern standard as well, while “Let Me Stay” is as modern as pop can get. What more do you want from a guy?!?
