Bill Frisell: Silent Comedy

Bill Frisell’s latest release claims to be “produced (and nurtured) by John Zorn.” Hmmm. What you’ve got here audibly is a collection of eleven themes ranging from 2-9 minutes. What it sounds like is experimentation with finger pickings, electronic tapes and effects and sonic musings not too different from the old days of Fripp and Eno. I’m not sure what movie this Silent Comedy is a sound track for, but I’m willing to bet that it does not feature Harold Lloyd or Buster Keaton. Maybe the machine scene in Chaplin’s Modern Times…
