Canadian singer/songwriter Alanis Morissitte was one of the definitive sounds of the 90s, selling something like 50-60 million albums. Here, she looks back and a bit forward on this concert cd/dvd from the 2012 Montreux Jazz Festival. Material from Havoc And Bright Lights is mixed from the classic Jagged Little Pill, with worldly messages from overt sexuality (can’t we just get over that?) and Catholic guilt (please!) are mixed with funky rhythms and catchy choruses. Like most bands that play this genre, a case of Hopping Bass Syndrome is evidenced by Cedric LeMoyne (are the songs THAT easy?)while the singer herself roams the stage like a caged lioness. Lots of image and attitude, with few if any answers.
