The Four Tops: 50th Anniversary Singles Collection : 1964-1972

Here’s a quartet of gents that defined the Motown sound. Vocalist/leader Levi Stubbs and the 4 Tops produced some of the most exciting soul sounds during the hey day of the famous label. Stubbs’ voice was the signature of the band, though the other guys took occasional stabs on B sides. This set contains every hit single you’d ever want, along with bonuses such as Italian version of a couple of tracks. The reason you want this, however is for the classic collection of song composed by the famous team of Holland-Dozier-Holland such as “Reach Out, I’ll Be There,” “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch),” “Standing in the Shadows of Love,” “Bernadette,” and “Baby I Need Your Loving.” They also did covers such as “Walk Away Renee” and “ MacArthur Park” and “Yesterday’s Dreams is a beaut, but we’re talking meat and potatoes here. Throw in The Funk Brothers band along with James Jamerson’s classic bass licks, and you’re in hog heaven. Essential time capsule to the soul of your soul.
