Pamela Sklar: A Native American-Jazz Tribute

Subtitled “A Tune For America” flutist Pamela Sklar brings together various woodwinds along with guest percussionists and strings to weave together a meditative tapestry of sounds. At times alone with her meditative flute, and other times bringing together altos, basses and piccolos as on “Coniferous Forest” and “From The Land.” The addition of drums and bass by Bob Meyer and Dean Sullivan respectively make the closing track “A Tune For America” the most assertive and accessible, while the the mix of clarinet, cellos and flute on “Eventually” is like a spacious serenade. More a collection of meditations than an actual jazz tribute, it still serves its purpose by giving audible glimpses of American grandeur like Monument Valley.
