Composer/arranger Leo Brouwer brings together a delicious melding of strings her with the Havana String Quartet and guitarists Carlos Barbosa-Lima & Larry Del Casale. Combining everyone’s talents, he does a lovely arrangement of some Beatles tunes with the quartet and Barbosa-Lima, making pieces like “A Ticket to Ride” and “Got to Get You Into My Life” come across like Caribbean folk pieces. The two guitarists collaborate on a handful of duets, while the solo guitar pieces are handled by Barbosa-Lima. These are delightfully intimate bon bons of joy, and the disc closes with another meeting of frets and bows. Earthy, romantic and lilting, the mixture of streams is like a freshly made paella of flavors. Bon appetite!
