Pianist and composer Sasi Shalom brings together the impressive team of Donny McCaslin/ts-ss, Antonio Sanchez/dr and Desmond White/b for a collection of post modern originals. Shalom’s got a gentle touch, which is demonstrated on the undulating “Shari” while assertiveness is demonstrated by Sanchez’s driving drumwork on”Raging Bull” and “Aba (My Father)”. The underlying busy groove of “My Son My Soul” as well as the subtle undertones of “Watch Your Back” provide an excellent foundation for McCaslin’s warm soprano while his tenor glows on the rich ballad “Up and Down.” All of the tunes are intriguing and they each include varying themes and directions to keep your interest. The album is dedicated to the children and heroes of Sandy Hook, showing that Shalom lives by his name of Peace.
