Erin Boheme: What A Life

After releasing her intriguing and promising debut at the age of 17, vocalist Erin Boheme pulled a Madeleine Peyroux and went into hiding for about 5 years before coming back for a followup. This one is produced by Michael Buble’, who also lends his touring band of Alan Chang/p, Dino Meheghin/g,  Craig Polasko/b and Robb Perkins/dr to this release that finds the lady in more of an indie pop mood with hints of jazz chanteuse thrown in.

Material like “Everyone But Me”  and “The Last Time” feature Boheme’s mousy and yet vulnerable voice in a setting with an almost hip hop pop feeli, while she sounds vulnerable on Coldplay’s “In My Place” and the piano duet on “What a Life.” She feels relaxed and  comfortable in the folkish “In My Shoes” and teams up marvelously with Spencer Day as they coo to each other on the absolutely charming “I’d Love to Be your Last.” The themes of most of the songs probably explain why she’s been away, as they’re all about love and love lost. It’s nice to have her back, and maybe someone, or Someone,  can give her a reason for more joyful songs next time around.
