Who would ever have conceived that one day there would be a nostalgic desire for Heavy Metal Music. “Ah, those were the days. When head banging was REALLY head banging!” or “We weren’t big; the arena’s got small.” Or how about “We didn’t need digital; we had MARSHALL AMPS!” Well, you get the point. Anyway, Deep Purple’s Machine Head was a “must have” if you grew up in the 70s, or had a need to somehow deal with your adolescent testosterone.
What you’ve got here are some of the best gun slinging guitarists around, like Carlos Santana, Joe Satriani, Joe Bonamassa and Steve Vai, as well as singers like Jacoby Shaddix, Glenn Hughes and Sammy Hagar. When you stir them into the Machine Head pot, you’re gonna end up with a white hot “Smoke on the Water” ( with Santana and Shaddix) as well as a thunderous “Highway Star” (lead by Satriani and Hagar). A thunderous “Space Truckin’ with Iron Maiden and a funky “Maybe I’m a Leo” bring you back to a closing second take of “Highway Star” with Hughes and Vai swinging from the rafters. The dial was set for 11 on this one!
