Here’s a great mix of musical genres provided by composer/keyboardist/leader Marc Rossi. Mixing sounds and rhythms from Central Asia with American jazz, Rossi leads a core team of Lance Van Lenten/sax, Bill Urmson/b and Mauricio Zottarelli/dr though a collection of originals that sparkles like cool Darjeeling tea like “Jazz Impressions of a Kriti” which combines guest guitarist Prasanna’s lithe string work with a big band energy. An alluring “Refuge” succeeds with some lovely vocals by Geetha Bennett floats along the saffron-spiced layer of textures provided by the rhythm team, while “Voice of 1000 Colors” mixes a Latin sizzle to some marvelous mystical harmonies. Accessible music, but with a dash of spices that make the release feel like an open air market of sounds and enticements.
