Here’s a listener friendly jazz set by drummer appropriately named Rick Drumm, who leads the team of Fred Hamilton-Corey Christiansen/g, John Ben Itez/b, Axel Tosca Laugart/p, Frank Catalano/sax, Mike Brumbaugh/tb and Pete Grimaldi/tp through an agreeable collection of interesting originals. Strong, but not overpowering on the back beat, Drumm cruises behind Catalano on the title track, and drips with Memphis Soul on “Pulled Pork Sandwich.” Some gracious interplay works with the guitars on “Gentle Spirit” and the sleepy “Return” while the team rocks out on “Indie Funk.” Should be a fun band to see in concert!
