Kami Thompson: Love Lies

She’s the daughter of folk/rock icon Richard Thompson, so you can’t argue with the genetic pool factor. However, something wasn’t taught to this young lady, as this collection of bluesy-roots music breaks one major rule, especially for a newcomer. As my friend Otto used to say, “People curse when they’ve run out of ideas.” For a beginner to have her lyrics peppered with some filthy language may sound “earthy” and “realistically honest” but it also takes away from any artistic commentary. She does an intriguing take of George Harrison’s “Don’t Bother Me,” but she’s obviously grown up in an era that thinks that art cannot be objectively judged by Truth, Beauty, and Craft. Sorry.
