Ivo Perelman/Joe Morris/Gerald Cleaver: Family Ties

I knew that I was in trouble with this disc when the first song, the title track, opened with Perelman soloing with simply the mouthpiece of his saxophone. Oh, boy. After that the material with Morris/b and Cleaver/dr has the saxist/kazooist playing like his splashing through the La Brea Tar Pits, with black stuff flying in all directions on “The Imitation Of The Rose” while “Love” is neither Philo, Eros or Agape. Morris’ bass bows like a beehive on “Preciousness” while it’s plucked like an eyebrow under Perelman’s legato lines on “Mystery in sao Christovao.” Are we there yet?
