Guitarist Bruce Forman is an LA regular, and is always playing in some club in the Valley. Definitely a worthy night when you catch him, as this latest release of his with the accompaniment of Bage Noel/b and Jake Reed/dr amply affirm. The material, mostly originals and all cleverly arranged, showcase the width and breath of the six stringer, with cooking little bebop picking well served on “Underdog,” “Gone for Good” and the title track. Quite intriguing are the more reflective pieces; a pair of various readings of his own “Bluzette” frames the theme in a couple intriguing atmospheres, while the delicate interplay on “Sea Sweet” is sprinkled with daring dashes of delicacy. The trio’s interplay on the Swing Era classic “Flamingo” is gentle and caressing, with a sublime mood never broken, while “I’ve Told Every Little Star” is whimsical and carefree. If you’re a six stringer, you’ll learn a lot here.
