Carmen Cuesta: Mi Bossa Nova

Here’s a vocal love letter to the master of Brazilian music, Tom Jobim, that is done just right. Singer Carmen Cuesta as sung with the best: Jim Hall, Earl Klugh, Grover Washington Jr. and Gato Barbieri, to name a few. Here, she teams up with Chuck Loeb (who is on bass, guitar, and keyboards) and a bunch of other sensitive souls for a gorgeous session of samba and bossa that hits the right vibe. Romantic, sleek, sensuous, Cuesta’s voice caresses tunes like “Triste” “Chega De Saudade” and “Meditacao” with soft and delicate hands. Her treatment of “O Barquinho” glides like a gentle wave, while her own “Jobim” is a tasty tribute to her inspiration. If you like the sounds of Getz/Gilberto, this should be on your shelf.
