Drummer Bastian Weinhold leads a post bop quintet with Adam Larson/ts, Pascal Le Boeuf/p, Nils Weinhold/g and Linda Oh/b through a collection of band-penned originals. The music divides into edgy and longer pieces like “The Tune” and “Space” and dreamy and fluid tunes such as “Kungafuh” and the title track. There is some remarkable bass work by Oh on “The Tune” and “River Styx” whle Weinhold drives the band like a sled team on “EsSeeE” and “Space.” The solos on guitar and sax are earthy and a bit long winded, but never losing your interest. The music is best served on the concise and to the point pieces like “Punkberry” which could actually get some radio play. Which band shows up in concert?
