Bill
Henderson @Spazios 01.10.10
By George W. Harris
Like all true great singers like Torme and Bennett, Bill
Henderson just
gets better year after year. Now in his 8th decade, his voice has an
irresistible grit that fits his inherently perfect sense of time with
hand in glove comfort. Backed by the Rolls Royce of Rhythm Sections (as
Henderson called the team of Mike Melvoin/p, Ralph Penland/dr and Tony
Dumas/b), Henderson was gave authoritative readings of a bouncy “All
The Things You Are” and the Latin-tinged “The Moon Was Yellow.”
His
pitch selection was as good as Gary Maddox’s on the down home shuffle
of “You Made Your Move Too Soon” while he changed gears like
a
Mazzerati on the ballad turned soulful strut “Old Black Magic.”
Before
you buy any more Buble’ please do yourself a favor and see this
guy
before he stops touring around. You’re in for a real treat.
