BLUES POWER! Rob Stone: Gotta Keep Rollin’

This guy Rob Stone has got India Ink in his veins-it’s THAT blue. He’s got a thumbtacks for breakfast voice, and a handle of the harmonica like he was weaned on the South Side of Chicago on hard hitting session with a core team of Chris James/g, Patrick Rynn/b, Willie Hayes/dr and David Maxwell/p. You’ve got blues in all hues and sizes, with lots of shuffle boogie (“Wait Baby”), honky tonk two steps (“Anything Can Happen”) and a bit of the Delta (“She Belongs to Me”). Of course, Chicago is never far away, with some nice piano work on “Wired and Tired,” and neither is humor, as Stone knows how to tell it on “Wonderful Time.” Bluesy rock and funk fill up the sweaty stuff here, and you won’t leave the club disappointed, just reeking of smoke.
