****RINGER OF THE WEEK****Ensemble C: Every Journey

Pianist Claire Cope brings together an exciting ensemble using the voice of Brigitte Beraha for both sonority and lyrics with instrumentation supplied by Freddie Gavita-Mike Soper/tp-fh, Anoushka Nanguy/tb, Matt Carmichael/ts, Rob Cope/bcl-fl-bars, Ant Law/g, Gavin Barras/b, Jon Ormston/dr and Jack McCarthy. The eight originals are essentially divided into two atmospheres. The first, exemplified by Beraha and Law gliding over the exciting cadence of the galloping “Every Journey (Has A Beginning)” or the wordless chant alongside the saxes on the Afro Cuban “Flight” flow and run like migrating animals in the Serengeti. Then, you also have lovely and languid hors and voice around Cope’s pasteled piano on “The Birch and The L arch” as well as relaxed and lovely hues from the reads on “ Amboseli” while ethereal voices hover and hang around the floating “The Light of the Dark”. Cope and Ormston dig in under some longing horns on “That Nabongo Feeling” and pastel’d shades gentle waft with voices and reeds for “Home”. When are they coming to Los Angeles?
