Here’s an exciting debut album by Slovakian violinist Petra Onderuf, who hits the ground running on this fusion rookie release. She has a core team of Rok Zalokar/p, Luka Dobnikar/b and Alex Zorec/dr for her sophisticated originals, and brings in a couple of guests as well. With trumpeter Casper Selko, Onderuf slashes and burns through a progressive and intricate “Cremm”, going straightahead onop-start bthe bluesy and pulsating “Next Chapter” and post bopping on “Eleven”. Jure Pukl’s soprano sax sears on the stop-start insensity of “Waiting for M.K” and high steps around the clever pizzicato/drum undercurrent of “Resemblence”. Onderuf herself has a rich flair, sweeping in Sibelius fashion on the intro to the hairpin turns of “Tanec” and longs with Zaolkar on the moody “Julia’s Secret”, forming a warm sonata on the ebullient “Time Of Day”. When’s she hitting the road?
