Brandee  Younger: Brand New  Life

Brandee  Younger continues to explore rich territories via the harp, this time keeping with a core team throughout the entire album. The foundation of Younger with Rashaan Carter/b and Makaya McCaraven serve as a “house band” for the likes of vocalist Mumu Fresh on a soft R&Bish tite tune, while vibist Joel Ross chimes in on the romantic “You’re A Girl For One Man Only”. There’s a Herbie Hancock feel with Ross, Desean Jones/fl and Yuri Popwycz’s strings on the jazzy “Moving Target” and a soulfest takes place with Meshell Ndegeocello singing on “Dust.” Most intriguing is the mix of vocals and harp on “Running Game” that veers into Carter’s leading a glorious pulse with harp and strings. Younger shows her own talents on a couple solo outings, a fragrant “Come Live With Me” and shimmering “If It’s Magic” . Can someone fly this lady out for a gig in So Cal? What does it take?
