Before he succumbed to COVID in 2020, jazz pianist Mike Long was just about to complete his jazz memoir, in which his widow Dorothy Longo has done with this 195 page book. The book is a combination of musical, personal and spiritual pilgrimage, documenting Longo’s career and friendship with artists such as Dizzy Gillespie as well as a collection of his experience in the musical environment of the various races that he played with and associated with. His spiritual trek is just as interesting, as he looks for a holistic approach to his musical and spiritual world.\
The story is an inspiring one, and is ultimately optimistic and encouraging, reminding each of us on our own time on earth that it’s important to view life as a preparation for eternity.
