Lalama (aka “Dizzy”) plays the piano, while Amanda Walther (“Fay”) sings like Julie London on a collection of originals destined for Lonely Avenue. The ringer in this swampy noir-fest team of Davide DiRenzo/dr, Rich Moore/b, Drew Jurecka/vi, Johnny Johnson/wwinds, William Carn/tb and Jason Logue/tp-fh is the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, which adds Town without Pity strings and textures to the heart wrenching tunes such as “Hooked E”, “In A Heartbeat” and hip and fun “Gotta Gotta Gotta”. Dizzy’s got a great saloon touch to his piano on both intros and obligatos, such as during the bluesy “I’m Alright” or the aria of “Good News”. Fay sings like she’s a pinup in the garage of a 76 Union Gas station, bearing her soul here, cooing there, and always in vocal deshabille’, as on the calypso’d “All The Things” stomping on the STAXY “Home Is Where My Heart Is” putting on extra red makeup for the emotional decolletage on a romantic “Never Mind”. Dark alleys of sound. ,
