This album by the team of Stuart Ziff/g, Daniel Stein/key, Marcos Reyes/perc, Fred Dinkins-Rick Latham-Kevin Stevens/dr, Travis Carlton-Rene Camacho/b and Chris Tedesco/tp consists of originals that mix jazz, pop, groove and soul in a way the makes you feel like you’re listening to instrumental outtakes of a Steely Dan album. The mix of reggae and keyboards make for a clever “Checkmate” , and some hip trumpet and synthy grooves glide well on “Go Play In The Street” and some 70s soul simmers well on the rocking “Lockdown”. Something akin to Edgar Winter’s White Trash mixes funk and soul on the wacka wooka’d “Blabbermouth” and the Hammond hums on the bluesy “Midtown”. Get a blue eyed soul vocalist and put them on the road!
