Omer Klein: To The Unknown

Pianist Omer Klein heads a trio with Haggai Cohen-Milo/b and Ziv Ravitz/dr through an impressive collection of originals. He’s done work with artitsts like Lee Konitz and John Zorn, so he knows his way around the ivories; his touch is warm and glassy with a hint of delicacy; definitely a hand in the classical realm. His tunes like “Mr. Dream” and “Resistance” display a ruminating thought process and finger work, and the teammates work as partners in a double play relay, timing their moves just right to get the runners. Klein’s spaciousness reveals a patience that is lacking in many of today’s artists, but he doesn’t trade it off for a lack of swing; he can still move a song like “One For the Road Forward” and take you along a wide eyed trip and make the ride seem easier than it actually is. Excellent outing
