Putumayo Presents: New Orleans Mambo-Cuba to NOLA

Like gumbo soup, this collection of ten songs from the Crescent City has flavors from all corners of the world, melding into one spicy and filling meal. The “Latin Tinge”, always present in jazz since its beginnings, is represented by Poncho Sanchez as he cruises on “Going Back To New Orleans” while NO native, the late Dr. John, drawls out “Mos Scocious” with some Longhair piano work. The darlings of the French Quarter, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, two steps through “Kreyol”, while even West Germany gets into the act, with the New Orleans Heartbreakers serve up a Teutonic take of “Jambalaya”. Afro-Cuban pulses are as hot as a Po-Boy with “Los Po-Boy-Citos” on the bopping “Jive Samba” and tribal tones by Bo Dollis & The Wild Magnolias give some Mardi Gras moments on “Coconut Milk”. As tasty as a coffee at Café Du Monde.
