Bassist and composer Eva Kess lets the strings lead as she uses a rhythm team of pianist Simon Schwaninger and drummer Philipp Leibundgut to support a string section of violinists Vincent Millioud-Susanna Andres, violaist Nao Rohr and cellist Ambrosius Huber through nine graceful originals. Bass and strings work wondrously through the lyrical “Ikagai” and “Porto Alegre” while brooding and plodding with Schwaninger on “Love Is”. Leibungut supplies an easy swing to the post bopper “Sternscnuppen” and the pizzicato’d effect on the gentle “The Subsequent Use of Yesteryear and Futurity” is quite joyful. The team gets artsy and quirky on “Experimental Dreaming” and the strings swoop like pelicans in search of food on “Penta Piece” . Flowing gowns of sound.
