Yellow House Orchestra: Pop

Michael Cerda sings while playing guitar and bass as he leads a swinging salsa band through ten of his pieces. He shares the lead voice with Marco Bermudez, Carlos Cascante, Jeremy Boxch, Herman Olivera and Willy Torres on the Spanish lyrics, as the band ranges from funky R&B on “79th Street Crosstown” to a slick soulfest of “Celebrate.” Cerda himself is no slouch at the microphone, sizzling with his chunky guitar on the title piece, and doing a rich read of Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing” that brings down the house. Yeisson Villamar’s piano works well with the layered  percussion on “From All Around” with his keys teaming with Doug Beavers’ horn charts on the thick “Out of Sight.” Bermudez’s delivery of “La Peluca” joins with Jonathan Powell’s trumpet to great effect. This band sizzles like roasted peppers!
