Davina Lozier sings with sweat as she delivers stomping southern soul on this latest release. Her blueswailing team this time around includes Resse Wynans on the keyboards, fresh from touring with Joe Bonamassa, as well as Doug Lancio/g, Todd Phillips/b, Jordan Perlson/dr and a horn section nof Zak Lozier Roland Barber and Jim Hoke. Davina’s voice, deliver and energy is emitted in a way that gives thoughts of male singers ranging from Jamie Cullum to New Orleans darling Gary US Bonds, with gritty and raspy bluesy produced on “Bone Collection,” a funky soulful “I Can’t Believe I Let You Go” and the two step Vaudevillian “No Matter Where We Are.” With Wynans, she’s stomping out “Another Lonely Day” and shuffles to “Little Miss Moonshine” while she takes you to a classy boudoir with strings attached on the chamber mooded “Mr. Big Talker.”
By herself at piano, she is vulnerable on the deeply moving “Deep End” while getting in touch with her inner Bessie Smith on a saucy “I Want A Little Sugar In My Bowl.” She can honky tonk with the best on “Stop Playing With My Heart” and takes you on a road trip down noir alley for “I’m Gonna Take My Time.” Her heart is on her sweat dripping sleeve.
