Leader Ryan Keberle plays trombone along with a wide collection of keyboards, teaming with guitarist/vocalist Camila Meza, tenor saxist Scott Robinson, bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Eric Doob on this wide ranging collection divided into two moods.
The first section, the five part “The Hope I Hold Suite” includes dreamy trombone, piano and ethereal voices on “Tangled in the Ancient Endless Chain” and synth moods for the political “America Will Be” The keyboards are thick on a soulful fusion of “Campinas” while the second section, introducing The Catharsis Trio, includes folksy bass and guitar on “Zamba de Lozano” and dreamy voices on the elegiac “Peering.” Keberle’s trombone is warm and fits in well in the atmosphere, lyrical and feeling a welcome part of the harmonics.
