Satoko Fujii: Stone

The prodigiously productive pianist Satoko Fujii goes solo on this collection of pieces recorded at Samurai Hotel, NY back in 2018. She uses just about every part of the piano, from strings to the wood, even  putting paper between the strings for the rustling “Chlorite.” She’s goes pizzicato to create moods on the percussive “Shale” and “Ice Waterfall” while going deep into thick magma during “Lava” and “Piemontite Schist.” When she’s actually at the ivories, she is gorgeously elegiac on”Eternithy” and creating soft ripples on “River Flow.” Creative and intuitive.
