Sokratis Sinopouls uses his Greek stringed lyra to take you to a trip to the Aegean Sea with a team of Yann Keerim/p, Dimitris Tsekouras/b and Dimitris Emmanouil/dr. There’s an exotic spaciousness between the mix of lyra and piano that evokes moods of a Mount Athos monastery on “Mnemosyne” while the folksy “Walking” and nocturnal “Transition” flow with a breeze along the dry Peloponnesian shore. A trio of “Metamodal” themes bring in a thoughtful drum cadence to the lilting “Liquid,” a yearning “Illusions” and the night quietude of a reflective night on Patmos during “Dimensions.” Like Byzantine paintings, the sounds here are both timeless and ancient.
