Juan Alamo & Marimjazzia: Rua Panoramica

If there’s a Latin percussion instrument out Aizthere in the world, I’m sure that Juan Alamo has it in his garage, as he taps, plays and hits just about everything out there on this sizzling album with his Marimjazzia team consisting of Andrew Lazaro/perc, Steve Anderson/p, Ramon Vazquez/b, Raul Maldonado/dr and a collection of guests. Alamo blows a mean whistle to Vazquez’s electric bass on the kinetic “Calle Del Sol” while most of the time hitting the resonant marimba as on the exciting “El Morro” and sizzling “Lucia’s Mambo.” A tribute to the vibe giant Bobby Hutcherson is heard on the bopping dramatic “One For Bobby” while Alamo’s sublime intro to “El Magnifico” is rich and lyrical. Christina Alamo Medina glistens on the ballad “Prisoners of Hope” with a vocal chorus having fun on the festive salsa “Mi Puerto Rico Querido.” Sizzlilng like rice and onions on the frying pan.
