Will Kimbrough gets into a honky tonking ood as he plays guitars, keyboards, bass, harmonica and sings like he just hitch-hiked in town with juke joint support from Chris Donohue/b, Bryan Owings/dr and a collection of guests. He can come across like a troubadour on acoustic guitar, telling stories like the blue title track or the thoughtful “Alabama” as well as the thoughtful “Star.” He’s stark on the slide guitar during “It’s A Sin” and is warm and relaxed for “Salt Water and Sand.” When he wants to stomp, his rusty voice is bluesy for “Hey Trouble” and he struts through the traffic on “When I Get To Memphis” Some pop vocal harmonies make for a joyful mood on “I’m Not Running Away” while shows his more ominous side on the dark “Buddha Blues.” A night out on the side roads.
