Carol Sudhalter Quartet: Live at Saint Peter’s Church

It was a good day to be at church for this concert by Carol Sudhalter, as she plays baritone sax and flute and leads a simpatico team of Patrick Poladian/p, Kevin Hailey/b and Mike Campenni/dr through a swinging set of jazz standards. While she poses on the cover holding her flute, it’s her baritone sax that grabs the attention, filled with strength and gravitas, almost sounding like Sonny Rollins during a relaxed “On A Misty Night” and an aria with Poladian on “Park Avenue Petite.” Her flue bops to Polaidian’s peppy “Fun in the Alley” and is reflective during the lovely samba “Luiza.” Poladian gives hints of Bill Evans while Sudhalter sings on “Colin Blues” and digs deep on “Valse Hot” and “Funk in Deep Freeze.” A perfect place for inspiration!
