Modern and traditional themes are boxed together as Gregor Huebner plays both acoustic and electric violin with a core team of Ludwig Afons/dr, Klaus Mueller/p, John Benitez/b Jouie Bauzo/prec, Jerome Goldschmidt/perc and collection of vocalists and musicians. The result is an exciting collection of sounds and flavors.
A Cuban groove of John Coltrane’s “Equinox” sets the pace with a sizzle groove for Huebner’s violin to soar over Mueller’s piano. His strings cry along with Yumarya’s rich voice on “Obsesion” while she sings and speaks with passion on the muscular “Cuban Blues.” A festive “Zapato Apretao” brings in Karen Josephs feather flute while he and Huebner slither on “Llanto DeLuna.” A mystical “Yoruban Fantasy” includes folk chants and the strings bow and pizzicato with delight on the festive “Buey Viejo.” Lots of joy and optimistic moments fly through the air.
