Ray Greene (Featuring Dow Brain): Tell Me The Story of Christmas

Earnest and soulful deliveries of the Yuletide are presented here, with warm and understatedly charming renditions of traditional Christmas songs supplemented by some enticing originals. Greene also plays trombone, teaming with Dow Brain/p-org, Kendall Eddy/b, Scott Goulding/dr, Jeff Lockhart/g, Joe Cunningham/sax, Vinny Sabatino/perc and  Patty Barkas/voc for a mix of soul and reverence on a Memphisy “Silent Night” and his own upbeat “When I Think of Christmas.” He testifies on his “No One Should Be Lonely” and does some a cappella work on a hand raising churchified “Go Tell It On The  Mountain.” He’s cozy by the fireplace on “The Christmas Song” glorious with Eddy on “O Little Town of Bethlehem” and tells a rich and dramatic read with Goulding on “Little Drummer Boy.” He makes Christmas sparkle like lights on a tree.
